La Guadeloupe et la Martinique – C’est Magnifique!
Quelles belles îles à explorer et à promouvoir dans vos salles de classe!  L’intervenante montrera de nombreuses possibilités pour intégrer la culture de ces deux îles dans vos cours, peu importe le niveau! Des activités basées sur des contes, de la musique et des traditions culturelles seront soulignées.  Un dossier complet sera distribué à chaque participant.

Janel Lafond Paquin

Janel Lafond Paquin is Department Chair and teaches French at Rogers High School in Newport, RI. She is a former MaFLA President, NECTFL Conference Chair, and directs the AATF Future Leadership Program. Janel is an Officier in the Order of the French Academic Palms.

L’Héritage historique et litéraire de la dentelle du Puy-en-Velay
The lace of Le Puy, France, historically so vital to the economic, social, educational, literary and spiritual life of the area, is linked to the Black Virgin, Jubilee celebrations and the semi-religious order of the Béates.  In this workshop, the history of Le Puy lace will be explored (with a Power Point for attendees) and participants will have a chance to experiment with bobbin lace-making.

Judith Jeon-Chapman

Dr. Judith Jeon-Chapman teaches French at Worcester State University. She has presented several times at MaFLA PD events. During a sabbatical in the spring of 2016, she conducted research in Puy-en-Velay and took bobbin lace-making lessons there.

Abordons les questions du genre, de l’égalité sexuelle et de l’harcèlement
Les enseignants de langue se sentent souvent démunis pour traiter ces questions sensibles.  Cet atelier se sert de chansons comme point d’entrée pour aborder ce type de questionnement.  Les activités d’apprentissage qui ciblent les niveaux elémentaire et intermédiaire, sont construites à partir de ces chansons et auront comme objectif de sensibiliser les élèves sur ces questions de société et d’éveiller la reflexion individuelle.

10 Steps to the Seal of Biliteracy!

Melrose is one of the districts which has successfully introduced the Seal of Biliteracy.  The presenter will report on their progress and discuss the steps which districts must take to offer the Seal to their students and the benefits of adopting it.

This workshop will demonstrate how to make the best use of authentic resources, rendering them accessible at all proficiency levels.  Participants will learn concrete strategies for enhancing comprehensible input and maintaining target language use at 90%.

La Bande Déssinée: un pont aux cultures francophones
This session will introduce graphic novels in French and will explore them as cultural product and practice.  It will engage participants in a variety of activities and show how graphic narratives can be used as a medium to expose students to cultural, social and political issues and to discuss current global concerns.
